A Must Read: Toxic Words
Recently, I have been meandering through the process of converting my prayer journals to digital format [P.S. get Evernote ... it has revolutionized the way I do things]. As it should be, I am re-discovering loads of great inspiration and teaching… but there is one specific journal entry I would love to share from August 28, 2010, entitled “Toxic Words.” Enjoy:

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (Proverbs 18:21)
The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. (Proverbs 12:18)
Our words can be life-giving or life-taking.
The tongue has the power of LIFE and DEATH. Some of you are not doing what you have been called to do because you are believing words that aren’t true. You are not who others say you are. Get that poison out of your heart… forgive the person who spoke it; stop rehearsing it…
YOU ARE WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE.
“My life will always be bad.” “I’m never gonna be happy.“ … NO. God has plans to bless you and prosper you and give you a hope and a future.
“I’m always gonna be miserable.” … NO. Scripture says you have everything you need for life and godliness.
“I never get the breaks.” … NO. I serve a good God who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present and he is working in all things to bring about good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
You replace the toxic words with TRUTH and by FAITH you speak them. You may not feel it––– you keep speaking FAITH until you believe it…
You are not the sum of others’ words, you are who God said you are.
There is power in the tongue.
Words can give life or they can take life. We will be life-givers, not life-takers.
(Anytime we think something good, we’re gonna say it.)
We will SPEAK words of life… and we’re gonna watch as God does more than we could ever ask, think or imagine.
MEMORIZATION: Ephesians 4:29
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
1. Guard your heart against TOXIC WORDS.
2. Speak life-giving words into others every chance you get.
3. Speak life-giving words to yourself and your circumstances.
