His Weekly Word #193 – Holding The Flame

By on January 10, 2012

Alright, so we’re all officially back from our various New Year’s christian conferences and gatherings. Many of us are going back to school or work, back to the same old routine. Hopefully this is not the case! Hopefully We can learn how to hold the flame! Chances are if you went to the The Ramp’s Winter Ramp, Passion 2012, The Call, Jesus Culture or any of these conferences that are similar you’re still on the “Jesus High” as I like to call it. Whether it’s a once a year conference like Passion or once a month conferences such as UNITE Greenville and The Basement, we all face the same challenge. How do we keep the flame burning? How do we stay on this amazing spiritual high? How do we stay connected to The King of Kings?

What is required is a constant daily pursuit of God’s awesome, life changing presence. We need a daily burning time of devotion with God. I’m not talking about going to Starbucks, ordering a girly drink and reading a Psalm or two. Although I don’t discourage that, we all need more of an intimate time of interaction with God. We need it and He deserves it! I’m talking about a daily time with God that has no time limit. Whether you spend it diving into the word and prayer, searching out His Word for fresh new revelation or simply worshiping Him in a private place; maybe even for hours.

But Kyle… this requires time which my schedule does not permit. Well, clear your schedule for Jesus or wake up earlier just to spend time in His presence. I promise Jesus will honor the sacrifice and it is always worth it! We must seek Him first, daily; if we don’t, we’ll slip into complacency so fast it’ll make our heads spin!

Matthew 6:33 tells us to “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and these things shall be added to you” (NKJV). I’ll be the first to admit I’m guilty of not giving Jesus the time He wants with me daily. Since I’ve gotten home from The Ramp’s winter gathering I’ve found the enemy working hard to throw distractions at me, whether it’s video games, movies, or going out. None of these things are bad, but if we find ourselves indulging in them excessively and lacking in our devotion with God it’s time for something to change.

Psalm 132:3-5 says “Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, or go up to the comfort of my bed; I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob” (NKJV).

So, will you join me in seeking Him daily? His presence is the answer to all our problems. Join us as we “Start A Jesus Culture!

So what’s wrong with girly drinks from Starbucks? Seriously, though, great post. Daily prayer and Bible reading will keep you committed. My life changed dramatically in 1998. The Holy Spirit told me that I needed to start praying and studying the Bible daily. He didn’t mean “meditate,” or “have a beer and relax while you ponder the mysteries of the universe,” he meant “pray.” And He didn’t mean “read,” He meant “study.” The change was not overnight, and it’s still in progress, but that began my middle-age transformation and took me off of the road I was headed down.
