Monday Rundown: Catching On Fire
It’s Monday, and if you’re new to Quarterlife Man, you’re new to the Monday Rundown. The Monday Rundown is a compendium of randomness compiled over the course of each week. Enjoy…
[As always, if you've seen something crazy or have a suggestion, email us or tell us on Twitter (@QuarterlifeMan).]

––Programming Note: If you haven’t already, check out today’s morning post on “The Myth of The Friend Zone.” It’s great stuff.
––Skyrocketing Traffic: Thank you to everyone who visits Quarterlife Man. In just one month, we have experienced tremendous growth and are seeing the vision of QM come to fruition. We’ve had visitors in 45 of fifty states (what’s wrong, Idaho, Wyoming, Vermont, Maine, and Rhode Island?), with a gigantic skew toward Florida, Georgia, Texas, California, and New York. We’re also in 44 countries worldwide (which is mindblowing). When you’re reaching the people of places like Sri Lanka, Latvia, and Bulgaria with a message that matters, you’ve gotta think that God is smiling up there.
Keep spreading the word. If you’d like to get involved on a deeper level, as always, you can email us.
––America Doesn’t Get Tim Tebow: Check out this article by Nick Brown of Bleacher Report. He says that America doesn’t understand who Tim Tebow really is, what he stands for, or Christianity in general. He’s spot on. [Spoiler: Tebow's service and good works are not his saving grace.] Read it.
Bonus: A great article about Tebow and faith from former MLB pitcher Dirk Hayhurst.
––The Bounceback for “Jesus > Religion”: Anytime you have something Christian and “cool” that goes viral (if you’re clueless, you probably missed Jefferson Bethke’s “Jesus > Religion” video), there will be an invariable bounceback. Some of that comes from people who try to be “above” the next cool thing and some of it is genuine. The Gospel Coalition’s Kevin DeYoung (writer of a great book, Just Do Something) wrote a response, Does Jesus Hate Religion? Kinda, Sorta, Not Really. It’s really well written. Then, Jefferson and Kevin interacted via email and telephone, leading to a follow up article. Both articles are really worth a read.
––Mark Cuban’s 12 Rules For Startups: If you’re an entrepreneur, chances are you love Mark Cuban (he’s funny, brash, unapologetic… an interesting man to learn from). Anyway, he wrote an article for Entrepreneur Magazine on 12 Rules for Starting a Business and it’s spot on. If you’re ever considering starting a new venture, this is a great resource.
––Joe Paterno Wasn’t Fired?: Whether you actively follow college football or not, you know the name Joe Paterno. For an extended period of time, we’ve been asking, “Why didn’t he do anything?” (in regards to the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal). Now, we’re asking, “he wasn’t fired?”
As it happens, Joe’s contract is still being honored and will be allowed to retire. Per CBS:
“Coach Paterno remains employed by the University as a tenured faculty member,” they said in a statement released Thursday. “The details of his retirement are being worked out and will be made public when they are finalized. Generally speaking, the University intends to honor the terms of his employment contract and is treating him financially as if he had retired at the end of the 2011 football season.”
That’s right. Paterno is still getting paid. Penn State is still honoring his contract. And yes, they plan on sending him off into the sunset just like they would any other employee who retired after years of service to the university.
Can you believe that?
