Monday Rundown: Needs Some Brotox

By on June 4, 2012

It’s Monday, and if you’re new to Quarterlife Man (welcome), you’re new to the Monday Rundown. The Monday Rundown is a compendium of  randomness compiled over the course of each week. Enjoy…

[As always, if you've seen something crazy or have a suggestion, email us or tell us on Twitter (@QuarterlifeMan).]

––Yes, “Brotox” Actually Exists

Don’t believe it? Click here. Some excerpts:

[box_light]To give himself a boost in the job market, Pelham turned to Dr. Jeffrey Adelglass at Skintastic, and a popular treatment usually given to women.  “Brotox, if you will, is probably where mani/pedis were 10 years ago,” Pelham said.

He had several treatments of botox and fillers around his face to help revitalize his look.  And, he’s not alone.  Dr. Adelglass says “brotox” business is exploding as older men turn to cosmetic procedures to help them face-off with younger competitors –– especially when hunting for new jobs.[/box_light]

[box_light]“When you walk into that room, you want to be peppy, you want to be alert, you want to be energetic,” she said.  “So, a little ‘brotox’ here and there, why not?”[/box_light]

[box_light]And Pelham agrees.  He believes “brotox” helped him regain the confidence and the edge he’d lost.  He says the biggest obstacle now is battling the stigma associated with getting the treatment.[/box_light]

Oh mannnnn. If ‘brotox’ is where mani-pedis were 10 years ago, what’s 20 years from now? 30?

––Headed to Mars…

A brand new private space venture from the Netherlands, Mars One, aims to send four astronauts to Mars in just 11 years time. The group plans to land its first four astronauts on September 14, 2022.

Mars One

The Mars One group is saying that it will be a ‘media spectacle’. Do you think Mars colonization will happen by the time we’re 40?

In other space news we completely missed… there’s a rock in space worth $20 trillion dollars. That would make the company attempting to harvest it (Planetary Resources) the richest company on the planet.

––The Perfect Future Wife Perfume

…well, for nerds, anyway. It’s called Paper Passion and it’s modeled after the smell of a freshly printed book.

Paper Passion

It’ll set you back $115, but that’s a price well worth it if I can make my future wife smell like a sexy, sexy book.

––Speaking of two things I love…

Swap the “wife + books” for “church + books.” In this case, a beautiful, abandoned church in The Netherlands, which was turned into a bookstore:

Just go ahead and add that to your places-to-visit list.

––Soda Jerk?

Leave it to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to incite some controversy. His proposal, a ban on sugary beverages, axes anything over 16-ounces, on bottled drinks and fountain beverages sold at New York City restaurants, movie theaters, sports venues and street carts. It only affects drinks that have more than 25 calories per 8 ounces.

Though overwhelmingly negative in response, I can’t help but think it’s a great idea. Moderation (especially in soft drinks) is key. I also can’t help but think that soda companies and fast food restaurants will be up in arms. With most fast food restaurants, the money is made in the beverages.

For example: an 18-ounce soda costs $0.16 to make. That’s a markup of over 1200%. All of the sudden, those larger beverages (32 oz. and up) will vanish (and so will their profits).

Ouch, sayeth McDonalds.
